5 Magazine Analysis

This is the analysis of 5 chosen magazine:

The magazines:

Jangga Hatuen Bulan

The assignment is to promote our own theatre musical by using Indonesia's folklore. It was a group project. Me and Risqul started to search some stories and we got Jangga Hatuen Bulan for this assignment.

WHY we chose that story. Basically because of its interesting story. The story is not like the ordinary story which has a happy ending. The story has some conflicts, not only a straight forward story. And it's not a mainstream story that people have already known like Malin Kundang, Bawang Merah Bawang Putih, etc.

It's a story from central Kalimantan.

Click Jangga Hatuen Bulan to see the full story

These are the sketches for the logo:

We have some name options:
  • Berburu
  • Rembulan Pergi
  • Tak Kembali
  • Separate Universe
  • Realm of Two Spirits
  • Moon
  • Watchers of The Moon
  • Two Spirits
  • Distant World
  • Spirits
  • Distant Spirit
  • Ruh Sepeseta
  • 384.400 Km
  • Pungguk Merindukan Bulan
From the Dayak language:
  • Sadingen: Dingin
  • Maja: Bertamu
  • Mananjung: Jalan
  • Due: 2
  • Eka: Tempat
  • Pahari: Saudara
  • Ngiwa: Bawah
  • Bana Sawa: Suami Istri
  • Kanauang: Keinginan
  • Tingkap: Rumah
  • Hingka Malem: Tadi malem
  • Dumah: Datang

So Bana Sawa is the chosen one! We want to sell the conflicts, and the main conflict is conflict from husband and wife.

And finally!

Tambora Survival Game

Creative brief:

After that, I started to make 3 concepts, and the chosen one is GET LOST concept, to make an adventurous feeling and it's like being surrounded with Tambora's culture.

Continued with making the logo, and this is Week 6 Presentation

These are the logo development:
I tried to make the logo from the shapes, but it doesn't look adventurous and looks playful for kids, whereas the target audience is for the teenager.

PDI Project

So we have 4 options of Indonesia's place, those are Sigi, Tambora, Maluku, and Palu. Sigi and Tambora is the priority.

10 projects:

  1. Wear it, Share it! : Share your photo using Maluku's traditional clothes on the social media.
  2. Maluku Traditional Food Fest: Selling Maluku's traditional food and give the information about the food (fun fact)
  3. Maluku Music Festival: Play today's hits song using Maluku's traditional music instrument
  4. Maluku Song Festival: Music competition by playing Maluku's song
  5. Maluku Song Festival (2nd option): Concert of some popular band playing Maluku's song
  6. Maluku Song Festival (3rd option): Playing Maluku's song using its traditional music instruments
  7. Maluku Traditional Game Competition: traditional game competition
  8. Smile for Maluku: Photography exhibition from Maluku's poor people, the photos are to motivate people to run their life with spirit and for donation
  9. I am Ambon: Something like survival game, there will be some missions to finish this game
  10. Cooking Competition: Maluku food cooking competition

At the first time, I chose Maluku, but it changed into Tambora because its the priority. After some feedbacks from lecturer and friends, I decided the survival game because people could learn Tambora's culture with fun.

Wazoo

I got a team of 4, they are Kezia, Oliv, and Damaz. Based on the lottery, we got Sea World! So we have to make a Seaworld, and create the identity and things needed (like signage, animal info, etc).

So we got a name for the zoo, it's Wazoo!!
Wazoo is as simple as from Water Zoo. and this is the creative brief:

MOODBOARD

These are the process:

Why we chose that typeface for the logo is to represent kids. Kids love something simpler and that typeface are based from basic shapes.

Mini Campaign Presidential Election (Exercise)

I chose Jokowi. Jokowi is famous with his down to earth attitude and he doesn't dressed like an important person. I want to show this attitude to people, so people could realise that they have to have a humble leader that listen to public's opinions.

These are some of the options:

This poster shows the way he dressed to show his humble attitude.
This one, on his head, there are some of public's opinion. He will listen and keep it on his mind :)

This is the chosen one.

Black and white – represent his simplicity
Red – to show contrast

and the caption shows a fact that make it stronger.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The movie is really pay attention to the visual looking. First, the camera’s angle is not usual, compared by another movie. It’s not just a flat angel that the eyes can see. It let us to see from different angel. For example, it shows from above the person then moving to the front side of the person. Another part that I like is it shows the frame inside the car but when the car was started to go, the camera is zooming out so the whole car could be seen. Second, I could feel the same feeling between one scene to another ones. I guest it’s because of the same color tone. And the pink filter makes it look one unity. Last, the angel of the camera makes us pay attention to the typography of the hotel (that usually forgotten). It makes me want to see it and read it. All in all, it really pays attention to the detail that usually forgotten.
