5. stick 'em up
6. give extra picture that made from letter by your own drawing

and the 1st homework is research on typefaces (serif, sans serif, geometric, humanistic, script, decorative, roman and non roman)

Research on Typefaces

Type is divided into two types, Serif and Sans serif. Serif means a small line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter or symbol, or we can call it “leg”. Serif is a type that has a “leg”. For example, a capital "A" is usually has two lines in its two leg. Serif typeface was found before sans serif. Sans serif is one that doesn’t have line attached to the end of a stroke in a letter. Sans is come from the French word. It means “without”. So sans serif means without serif. Sans serif actually divided into four major groups, such as, Grotesque, Neo-grotesque, Humanist, and Geometric. Humanist is the most calligraphic of the sans serif typefaces with some variation in line width. Geometric typefaces are with based on the geometric shapes like circle and square.
Type also has a style, such as, script, decorative, roman, and non-roman. Script is a typeface that created by handwriting, or the handwriting typeface. The letters are connected each other. Decorative is a lettering that designed more for its fancy. Decorative is not easily read because it more defined to the style than to the purpose (easily read). Roman is the result of two styles combination. It was based on pairing the Roman Square Capital and the Carolingian Minuscules. Roman typeface are upright thick-and-thin weighted. Non Roman is a style that exist in many language such as Korean, Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, etc.

the 2nd home work is "Typography Vernacular". Use camera to shoot alphabets surround you (A-Z)

Sooooo we decided to go to Kota Tua! and sir Angga asked us to draw minimum 10 things on Kota Tua, choose one of your thing to be drawn in one page.

Direction, Space, Texture, and Scale

Thursday, July 11th 2013

Today sir Em challenge us to do another line game. We have to represent line that represents bark, royal, dirty, clean, cry, exhausted, and serious:

after that we play cut and stick. Okay it's not a game but.. it's quiet fun! we have to cut circle/triangle/square, you can choose one of them, and make 4 categories such as direction, texture, space, and scale. After that we have to stick it on white paper then the white paper have to be sticked on the infraboard.

Elements and Principles of Design

Wednesday, July 10th 2013

Sir Em introduced us to the elements and principles of design such as:

after that, I learnt about line as an expression. Expression of calm&quiet, movement, happiness, and a feeling of vitality to a picture. Here's my works:

so I'm quiet amazed. the way we made the line can give some expression. and that things are done by Japanese people while making a comic. they usually use line to make their comic more expressive.

Today I also have learnt about this new thing:

Exit Through The Gift Shop

Tuesday, July 9th 2013

Today we're going to watch the movieee! Now is about the street artist. The movie titled "Exit Through The Gift Shop".

We have to make a report and opinion about that movie in A4 paper, Helvetica Light, 8 pts, Leading 10,2 pts, minimal 1/2 page, maximum 1 page.

Here's my sketch:

and here's my report:

Exit Through The Gift Shop

“Exit Through The Gift Shop” is a documentary film by Thierry Guetta. A man from no one becomes someone. Taking video is his passion. He loved to record every moment on his family. He has so many videotape because he love to take video everyday. His wife said that Thierry prefer taking video than taking photo. He also becomes attracted to the street artists (and also curious of them). And he always takes a video of them. Start from how to make some graffiti and stick them up in the middle of the night, how to survive from the police officers, what are their activity, and many more. He met such great street artists. From Andre, Shepard Fairey, Seizer, Space invader, until he finally met the master and the most wanted street artist, Banksy. But after taking so much videos of them, he was inspired by them and start to try some graffiti and art until he become more successful than all of them.
For me, the film is inspiring. Only from talking and seeing what did the experts do, we can learn many things and we can pass far away beyond them. The film tells us how passion causes an amazing effect to our self. I think if we do well our passion, it can changed you into someone.
I also got some positive lessons from the film. First, don’t give up until you get what you want. Always fight for it, and act actively (not passively). Do some acts. Keep trying and again, never give up. Just like Thierry do, he will never stop until he found Banksy. From Los Angels until Paris, also England. He leaves his family just for paying his curiosity about street artists.
Second, be crazy, do not afraid. Like the street artists do, climbing the roof, move from other building to the other one. They do this because they want to find the best spot for their creation. So it can attracts people attention and makes people curious of it.
Third, you must do something total. If we do something total, we will never being disappointed by the result. So never do something only 50%, the result is only 50%, and you need 100% to see the perfect result.
Last, be different. Difference can attracts attention. Like Thierry did. He makes a pop art painting. He also makes a super big monster from televisions. Or Banksy did. He rent an elephant and paint on it. Well, people got attention to that. And people remember.
In typography side, graffiti looks sporty and match to the teenager. Graffiti is more identic to boys because girls prefer something tidy and cute. Graffiti looks messy. For me messy means naughty.
My solution, the street artists must have a confession and facilities. So they will feel safe. No need to be insecure in the middle of the night. Police officers said that street artist is always wrong. I know. It breaks the rule. It also makes the city facilities looks bad. It’s just because they didn’t have the right place to create their creation. So they keep going on. Many of street artists who have a big talent must be exposed. So the world can see them.
Art is never wrong. Street art is not wrong. Everybody have their own world, they own passion. We couldn’t prohibit them to stop. Because it is their world. Again, actually, they only need a facility.

Hue Tint Tone Shade

Monday, July 8th 2013

Today we're introduced to the color wheel. There are primary, secondary, and tertiary colours. Primary coluors are those that cannot be made from mixing other colors. Secondary colours are made by mixing equal parts of primary colors. Tertiary colours are formed by mixing two secondary colors

We also learnt about hue, tint, tone, and shade

btw things needed to make your own colour wheel are easy. you just need a pencil, watercolour, brush, and mixing pallete. first start to draw circle, then divide that circle into 12 parts or pizzas :-p (yummyyy), make 3 primary colours then secondary colours. the last is tertiary colour. then you can start to add white for the tint part, grey for the tone part, and black (JUST A BIT, because black is the strongest colour) for the shade part.

I also made my own colour wheel:

We also made Perseus holding Medusa's head!!! Same technique like before.

aaaand in the end sir angga gave us a homework, draw 5 things on your living room
